This is a Comment on the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Proposed Rule: Modernization of Poultry Slaughter Inspection
For related information, Open Docket Folder
The American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO strongly urges that FSIS reject the proposed changes to Part 381 in their entirety. The proposed changes to the current poultry slaughter inspection system for young chicken and turkey slaughter establishments will not improve food safety as the Agency suggests. Rather, by implementing these changes, FSIS will ensure that increased numbers of adulterated poultry enter the marketplace thereby endangering the health and safety of the American consumer. Further, the proposed changes to Part 381 are a direct violation of the Poultry Products Inspection Act of 1957 and cannot be allowed to proceed.
