My son, Luke, has severe cerebral palsy and congenital heart disease. His lack of muscle control means we use a special needs car seat when traveling. Luke is approximately 54" tall and currently weighs 62 pounds.
The brand of car seat we use is a Britax Regent. It has a 5-point harness to keep Luke sitting upright. It also has an abductor (or pommel), to keep Luke from sliding down and out of the seat. This car seat is not aircraft approved, but satisfies all his special needs while keeping him safe and secure. We are flying to Disney on Southwest Airlines on May 25, 2013. This is a special trip for Luke and is the only vacation he has been on. Being his first trip on a plane, I wasn't aware of aircraft certified car seats. This is the only car seat we have that fits Luke properly. I'm sumitting the manual for the standard Regent, although Luke's has the additional abductor which is not listed on their user manual. I'm also attaching a picture of Luke so you can view his disability. I would appreciate your consideration in granting an exemption for us to use Luke's Britax Regent for this flight. Thank you.
