I could not figure out how to post this on the website so here it is.
I am an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in the local school system. I teach children age 2 1/2 to 22 years of age to move and orientate in space. This includes crossing streets, which is a very complex and at times challenging. I start teaching with quiet, non-controlled intersections and move up to very complexed intersections. There are a number of children that will become adults that would not be able to cross the street unless they had an APS. They know when they approach an intersection if there is no APS, they do not cross. These devices are vital to pedestrians and allow them to know that the walk signal has activated. Another added benefit to having an APS installed is the concept of confirming the direction they are traveling. When they hear a certain sound they relate it to the direction they are traveling. APS devices are life changing for the children I work with. Please support them and continue to install them. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
