I am a high-school biology teacher and I use magnets such as these as an invaluable teaching tool when discussing proteins structure and function. I spent a great deal time developing lesson plans around some more advanced models available but needed a tool for teaching the basics of protein structure. My students use "zen magnets" and "bucky balls" to aid in understanding how simple repeating subunits can be used to build more complex structure. You can see an example of a lesson using these magnets here:
It would be a great hardship to me and to the education of my students if these tools were no longer available.
