Energy Conservation Program: Test Procedures for Small Electric Motors

Docket ID : EERE-2007-BT-TP-0008
Agency : Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office (EERE)
Parent Agency : Department of Energy (DOE)
Summary :
The Energy Policy Act of 1992 amended the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to direct the Secretary of Energy to prescribe testing requirements and energy conservation standards for those small electric motors for which the Secretary determines that standards would be technologically feasible and economically justified, and would result in significant energy savings. As a result of DOE's analysis, on July 10, 2006 (71 FR 38799), the Secretary published a positive determination for small electric motors, and is now developing test procedures for those motors in this rulemaking. In addition, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 amended the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to expand the scope of covered and regulated electric motors. DOE has issued amended test procedures for electric motors.
