I believe Award travel is being misrepresented as "Free" whenever fuel surcharges are levied. This makes it a deceptive practice, in a general sense. Now, everyone is made aware of and can choose not to purchase or participate with that airline. However, the idea of using miles to travel which were accrued (in one way) via travel on the airline by paying the published fare (when the airline encouraged to participate in the frequent traveler program for redeeming for free travel), it is not clearly spelled that it would actually not be "free" always. Fuel surcharge should be part of the cost of a ticket and award travel (as the airlines represent it should be free from it).
