Dear Sir/Madam,
I strongly support increasing protections for captive chimpanzees by granting them endangered status, and eliminating the special rule that exempts them from Section 9 prohibitions. Chimpanzees share most of our genes, and have been shown to suffer horrible psychological effects from scientific experiments. In addition, studies have shown that the use of captive chimpanzees in entertainment, the pet trade and invasive research contributes to the mistaken belief that chimpanzees are not in danger of becoming extinct in the wild.
