Response to a Petition to List 83 Coral Species Under the ESA

Docket ID: NOAA-NMFS-2010-0036
Agency: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
Parent Agency: Department of Commerce (DOC)
A petition to list 83 coral species was received in October 2009. Initial response is for NMFS to make a 90-day finding to determine if the petition presents substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that the petitioned action may be warranted. If so, then a status review is conducted, which leads to a 12-month finding of either not warranted or warranted. If warranted, a proposed listing rule is published, which may lead to a final listing rule.
