Energy Conservation Test Procedures for Residential Furnaces and Boilers (Standby Mode and Off Mode)

Docket ID: EERE-2011-BT-TP-0007
Agency: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office (EERE)
Parent Agency: Department of Energy (DOE)
Per the EISA 2007 amendment to EPCA, DOE test procedures for residential furnaces and boilers are to be amended to include methods for measuring standby and off mode energy, taking into consideration the most recent applicable versions of standards from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). DOE completed the required action in 2010 by publishing a final rule which incorporated by reference IEC Standard 62301(First Edition) (75 FR 64621, October 20, 2010). This rulemaking will further amend the test procedure to incorporate by reference the new IEC standard 62301 (Second Edition), which has the potential to improve measurements and reduce testing burden.
