Energy Conservation Standards for Electric and Gas Ranges and Ovens and Microwave Ovens, Dishwashers, Dehumidifiers, and Commercial Clothes Washers [71FR15059] (EERE-2006-STD-0127)

Docket ID: EERE-2006-STD-0127
Agency: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office (EERE)
Parent Agency: Department of Energy (DOE)
The Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended, establishes initial energy efficiency standard levels for many types of major residential appliances and generally requires DOE to undertake two subsequent rulemakings, at specified times, to determine whether the extant standard for a covered product should be amended. Through this combined rulemaking, the Department is evaluating potential amendments to update the current energy efficiency standards for residential electric and gas ranges and ovens (including a new provision specific to microwave ovens) and is also considering establishing energy efficiency standards for commercial clothes washers, as required by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which further amended EPCA. Previously, this rulemaking also included dishwashers and dehumidifiers. Because the Energy Independence Act of 2007 (EISA 2007) prescribed standards for dishwashers and dehumidifiers, they have been removed from the rulemaking.
